What is a Casting Director? Castings directors are normally independent and are employed to find the right actors to show to the director, producers, and clients.
How can I Join Equity
You must be able to show evidence of at least six days paid work over a period of 12 consecutive months undertaken under Equity agreements Please note Equity agreements for walk-on, supporting and background artists do not include work on cinema films as these are covered by the FAA, as are independent TV productions filmed within a 40 mile radius of Charing Cross in London. Therefore we unfortunately cannot accept work on these types of productions as a means of joining Equity
How Can I join BECTU / FAA
You must ring the BECTU office in London and they will send you an application form 020 7346 0900
FAA, as are independent TV productions filmed within a 40 mile radius of Charing Cross in London.
What if I have little or no experience?
What you have actually done recently is not so important; it’s more to see how you present yourself on Camera. You just need to be able to get up early, be very reliable and available to do the work. Beyond that it is pretty much up to the Agent to find you work.
Can I work without a permit?
You need to be legally allowed to work in the UK if you want to join any agency. This means either you are a citizen of the EU, or have a permit to take paid work in the UK
How can I get acting experience?
For acting experience look out for student films etc. These can give you excellent experience; directors always remember when they had to find the actors, when they were training. Attend Drama School Go for acting classes. Locally you might find a local armature dramatics group look in your local paper.
When contacting a casting agency should I send my CV and photo or go in person?
A good mail out can create a desire on the part of the agent, casting director, etc. It’s not wise to go uninvited to either the Agents’ or Casting Directors’ offices as they are busy people.
